The great thing about Ovington Boats is that they don’t build duds. You don’t have to be reigning world champion to guarantee getting a boat that will be fast, and will last.
I have been a OB customer for 12 years. Ovington has continuously been trying hard to maintain the one design principles for the benefit of the 49er class. This is a huge effort in a handmade building process. Dave Ovington laid the groundwork for the successful growth of the class through innovate engineering and high quality boatbuilding. With Chris Turner following Dave, the class can trust a highly knowledgeable and competent boatbuilding team.
My B4 Ovington International 14 was the best boat I have ever had, unbelievable build quality - watertight and no structural issues after 4 years of abuse. Whilst you can never replace Dave Ovington, the team continue to produce quality boats with the guidance of Chris Turner – one of the best dinghy builders in the world - not a bad sailor either. Friendly and helpful.
Firstly, let me say I have been a customer for nearly 20 years, and in that time they have delivered true quality, whether it was a wooden Enterprise repair, or an Olympic 49er for the games.
Secondly, Ovington deliver a good boat when they say, not a month or two after! (an industry first!).
Thirdly, after the tragic passing of David, things are still moving on, and are doing so by committed enthusiastic professionals as it should be. The back bone of the company though, and the reason why we all get great boats, is the skill and application of the workforce, and it is to them I would credit with the success. Keep building great boats guys.
When I've had the choice I have always preferred Ovington boats, it just comes down to craftsmanship, quality and dealing with a professional team who understand dinghy racing. They have built all my International 14's and 18ft Skiffs over the years, the boats have always been down to weight, well balanced and stiff.
We have used Ovington boats for many years, their quality, service and attention to detail is second to none, many thanks.
I have used an Ovington 29er for the past two seasons, given they are built perfectly and come in on weight, I wanted my 49er to be an Ovington.
